Caleb is One Month Old!

I can't believe our little man has already been here for one month or just how fast this month has flown by! After spending nearly every waking moment with Caleb over the past 31 days, here are a few highs and lows:

Highs:

Finally meeting Caleb Saunders on March 14th after 9+ months of waiting and anticipating his arrival
Introducing Caleb to his adoring family
Caleb's first "real" smile (meaning it likely wasn't just gas :))
Learning what Caleb likes and dislikes
Getting 4 consecutive hours of sleep!
Determining the cause of Caleb's rapid breathing and heart rate and identifying a feeding plan that has helped (thank the Lord the cause of the breathing was not a serious heart or brain defect)

Lows:

Only getting 4 consecutive hours of sleep!
Spending 4 long days in the hospital as we diagnosed the cause of Caleb's rapid breathing and heart rate and watching Caleb go through test after test in the meantime
Learning that there is no manual for parenting

Can you believe I'm already 1 month old??

We were out running errands for Hannah's wedding when we
looked down and noticed that Caleb had a huge smile
on his face - what a fun moment with Grammy, Aunt Hannah
& Uncle Michael.

Love those big eyes!

The Name Explained

Introducing our NEW NAME (10/20/12): You may notice that the name of our blog has changed. You see, I've been trying to come up with a more snazzy name for our blog for quite some time, and it was actually Tim who came up with "Marching to a New Beat". I must say though that it's exactly what I was going for and for several reasons. Most obviously, it includes our last name (duh). Secondly (and more importantly), it reflects the newness of the stage we're in as parents and as a family. Everything we are going through right now is brand spankin' new. From giving birth, to changing diapers, to baby proofing our home, we really have no idea what we're doing since we've never done anything like it before... it's all SO new. That's not all though. There's yet another layer to this little onion of a name... I recently joined a weekly bible study called Bible Study Fellowship and we are going through Genesis. Additionally, our small group is reading a book called Forgotten God (by Francis Chan). In both of these studies, I have been repeatedly struck by how we shed our old sinful selves and take on a new being through Christ's death and ressurection. Our lives should reflect this newness, and while we often fail in this endeavor, we are called to march on (with God's help, of course).

And so there you have it... Marching to a New Beat. That's what we're doing everyday, and as often as I have time and relevant content, we'll share this newness with you and hope you enjoy each moment with us.
