Caleb's First Trip to MN and Other Random Moments

We did it... we made it through our first flight with Caleb! While it should have been a quick one hour leap up to Minnesota, it unfortunately would have been faster to drive the 6 hours than to fly. After a delay in Chicago, bad weather in MN and an "incident" at the airport (we weren't given any details other than that there was an incident that required we wait to land), we finally arrived in Edina for a much anticipated stay at Poppy & Gagu's. Thankfully Caleb was a champ and did very well on the flight.

While in Edina, Caleb finally got to meet his Aunt Lisa, Uncle Dan, cousin Allie and Uncle John, Aunt Mary, cousins Josiah, Mercy & Daniel. We also celebrated Poppy's (Tim's dad) 65th birthday with family and friends. It was the perfect gathering to introduce Caleb to the Marches and Saunders. It was also a very memorable evening as many people shared their fond memories and admirations of John. We feel so blessed to have him in our lives, especially as Caleb's Poppy.

We also celebrated our first Father's Day by spending the morning at the pool. It was Caleb's second time in the water, first time being dunked, and he loved it once again. If we weren't so biased towards football and soccer, I'd say we might have a swimmer on our hands! (don't worry, we'll let him try everything and decide which sports/hobbies he enjoys best :))

Another major event was Caleb's first rollover - from his back to his tummy! He has been close for a couple weeks now, making his legs and butt over, but he couldn't quite get his big head to turn all the way.

Here are photos from our time in MN (we sadly forgot our camera so we only have a few pictures capturing our time in Edina), as well as some other random photos displaying Caleb's cuteness...

Happy Father's Day!

Happy first Father's Day to a wonderful husband! You continue to amaze me with your love and patience with our baby boy and your godly leadership of our family.  I'm so proud to be your wife and can't wait to spend the next several decades raising our family together.

Happy Father's Day to our two wonderful dads as well - you have shaped us into the man and woman we are today and have served as incredible role models as we take on parenthood. We love you both so very much.

The idea for Caleb's gift to his dad, Grandpa (Sarah's dad) and Poppy (Tim's dad) was stolen from a couple friends, but was ultimately a product of Pinterest. It only took roughly 70 pictures and a tie soaked in pee (that's what I get for leaving Caleb diaper-less for 30 minutes... oops!), but we finally got 5 keepers...

Caleb turns 3 months!

Hard to believe another month has flown by! We've hit the 3 month mark that so many parents have told us about, and I can now see why. While we are not pros by any means yet, it is assuring that we don't feel so overwhelmed or under prepared. Talking to other moms and reading books have helped, but what has really made the difference and given us increased confidence and comfort has been just spending time with Caleb and getting to know him more each day. It's amazing how he communicates (non verbally, of course), letting us know just what he needs and when.

Here are the past month's milestones:
  • Caleb is somewhat consistently "sleeping through the night", although I would never call 8:30 - 3:00 "through the night". But apparently 5-6 hours in a row constitutes a night of sleep, so we'll take it!
  • No full rolling has taken place, but he is making to his side, which is something.
  • It sounds like Caleb really wants to laugh, although it still seems he's not sure how. He'll get so excited that he'll eventually squeak/squeal, but no laughter yet.
  • We're still thickening Caleb's milk due to his reflux (we tried nursing again a couple weeks ago and although he has made some progress, the increased spitting up due to the thin milk started really irritating him by the third day, so we're back to bottles). We did however switch thickening agents from rice cereal (which made Caleb pretty fussy) to a gel called Simply Thick. If you have a baby that refluxes significantly, I would highly recommend it! As opposed to rice cereal which is broken down by enzymes in the breast milk, Simply Thick keeps the milk thick which helps it from coming back up the esophagus.
  • Caleb loved meeting the entire Richardson and Luciani clan at Hannah & Michael's wedding.
  • We finally got over the non-family member babysitter hurtle and initiated a weekly date night last week. Even though we love spending time with our boy, we know how important it is to continue to invest in our marriage.

Caleb at 12 Weeks

Like all babies, Caleb has his fussy moments, but he is generally a very happy and content baby, providing many fun moments of interaction throughout the day. We've been so blessed that Tim is able to be home from work at an early hour and spend lots of quality time with his son
